Massillon City School District Board of Education in Search of New Board Member

MASSILLON, OHIO – July 5, 2017 – Massillon City School District’s Board of Education is currently searching for a new member to fill former Board Member Mary Strukel’s position. Strukel resigned at the Board of Education meeting on June 28 due to health reasons.

"Mary is very dedicated to the students of the Massillon City School District as seen by her attendance at a wide range of activities from academics, arts and athletics," said Board President, Liz Hersher. "She will be greatly missed on the Massillon Board of Education."

Anyone interested in serving as a board member, must submit a letter of interest to Massillon Board of Education, Attn: Liz Hersher, board president, 930 17th Street Northeast, Massillon, Ohio 44646.

The open position must be filled within 30 days. The Board will begin conducting interviews at a Board work session on Wednesday, July 19, beginning at 6 p.m.

The new member will be appointed at the Board’s next official meeting on Wednesday, July 26, and will serve on the Board until December 31.

Strukel had two years remaining of her four-year term. If the individual would like to continue serving the remainder of Strukel’s two-year term, they are required to run for the position on the November 7 ballot. To be included on the ballot, petitions must be submitted to the Stark County Board of Elections by August 9.
