Welcome to Technology Education!

My name is Mrs. Piorkowski. This is my fourth year teaching Tech Ed at MIS/MJHS. Before coming to MIS/MJHS I taught elementary computer for 16 years.

  • In 4th grade we are working on problem solving activities and learning how to work in a group.
  • In 5th grade we are focusing on forces while building catapults, marble rides, recycled boats and zoon air cars.
  • In 6th-8th grades we are using a program called Paxton Patterson. This is a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) program that allows the student to learn about different sciences on the computer while completing hands on activities.

Paxton Patterson Action Labs—Tech Ed

Grades 6-8

EVERY DAY each student is responsible for the following:

· Watch/Listen to their lesson on the computer

· Take a daily quiz about the lesson.

· Complete any activities from the blue binder that go with their daily lesson.

· Daily Journal—List 3 specific key points from the lesson, answer questions relating to their science or write 3-5 facts from a website. Each journal entry must have capitalization and punctuation to receive full credit.

On day 5, they do a critical writing activity about their topic.

On day 10-11, they do a reflection lab activity where they describe what they have learned and give 2 real life applications.

Students are allowed to take notes during their lessons. Those notes can then be used for quizzes or any writing assignment.

This is a work at your own pace class. If a student doesn’t complete a lesson on the day it is assigned, they can finish it the next day before moving on to another lesson.
