Piatt, Amanda

WELCOME! Hello...My name is Mrs. Piatt.  I am an Intervention Specialist in 6th grade here at MIS.  I currently work with three math teachers--Mrs. Houston, Mrs. Barbieri, and Mrs. Wagner.  We do everything from station teaching to small groups for re-teaching to co-teaching.  I have been in this building since it opened.  I love my job and wouldn't trade it for anything. Although I am not from Massillon, I have grown up with family attending Massillon City Schools.  I am married and I have 3 daughters who keep me busy.  I also love animals--and have 2 fish, 1 dog, and 3 cats.

Can't believe we are almost to Spring!
We are working with reviewing math content that has previously been taught.  This involves expressions and equations (writing and simplifying expressions, determining equivalent expressions, and solving one step equations), geometry (area, volume, perimeter, and surface area), ratios and proportions (comparing unit rates), and using our number sense to complete problems.  A newer concept students are working on is data analysis.  This involves determining the 5 number summary and creating a box plot.
Please remember you can access the student workbook online, as well as practice math skills using the Prodigy website.  Students can always use practice with memorizing their multiplication/division facts (and Xtramath is a great website for this).
Our typical day includes:
  • CCSS worksheets--quiz grade on Fridays
  • TBT focus (geometry)
  • Go Math Lesson
  • Homework
