The Massillon City School District is pleased to welcome Michael Cruz as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach.
“I’m excited for the amount of passion that the community members have for athletics in Massillon,” said Cruz. “I look forward to the opportunity to get to know the people of Massillon.”
Along with his new role of head basketball coach, Cruz will also teach social studies at high school level. His goals include creating a program that gets our students to the next level both academically and athletically preparing them to the best of their ability.
“Michael is very passionate about basketball” said Athletic Director, Nate Moore. “We only brought back candidates that we felt would fit into the community and Michael fit that mold.”
Prior to accepting this position, Cruz was an assistant coach at Garfield Heights High School. He also spent a number of years coaching at college level, coaching at Lake Erie College and Lorain County Community College. Cruz graduated from The Ohio State University in 2009 with a degree in History.
“We are excited to welcome Michael to Massillon,” said Superintendent Richard Goodright. “His experience at the college level will prove to be very beneficial to our community.”
