The Massillon City School District
will implement “Blizzard Bags” for the 2013 – 2014 school year. This program allows the district to use time
out of the classroom due to emergency or weather related cancellations as
traditional class days. The Ohio
Department of Education will allow the use of up to three additional calamity
days in order to provide our students with learning opportunities that would
otherwise be lost due to the abundance of inclement weather conditions. This will ensure that the school year will conclude
as closely as possible to the day scheduled on the school calendar.
The Curriculum Department
lead teachers will collaborate to develop three days of lessons and activities
that allow our students to extend the learning happening in their classrooms at
home via the Internet or paper/pencil copies.
These lessons will be posted in the “Blizzard Bag” link on the district
website. After the district has
exhausted its five allotted traditional calamity days
