The MJHS Writing Lab offers students a comfortable, non-threatening space to receive one-on-one writing help from trained peer assistants.
Our motto--"Helping people, not papers"--illuminates our central tenant: that a student should leave the writing lab a better writer than when she or he had arrived.
Our assistants do not edit or fix errors; instead, they work with writers to:
(1) identify the one or two most important skills the writers should focus on
(2) teach specific writing moves to grow those skills
(3) outline their next steps in the writing process.
The MJHS Writing Lab is open to all seventh- and eighth-grade students every day during lunch in room 805. Writers can sign up online or on the clipboard outside of room 805.
Our online registration, online writing lab, and other writing resources are available on our website.
Lunch passes are available in room 805.
(Students should get a pass and eat first, then come to the lab.)
