Kristina Blair has been the gifted coordinator at Massillon since 2013. Blair has spent her entire teaching career at Massillon, joining the district in 1998. Prior to serving as gifted coordinator, Blair served as a teacher of third and fourth-grade gifted students at Franklin Elementary from 2005-13, and as a teacher of gifted students in third through fifth grade at York Elementary from 2003-05. Blair was also a third-grade teacher at York Elementary from 1999-2003. Blair began her career as a teacher’s aide in special education at Franklin Elementary from 1998-99.

Blair is a 2013 member of Covington’s Who’s Who, a 2010 Milken Foundation Award Winner, and received her Master Teacher Endorsement/Renewal in 2009 and 2013. Blair received her bachelor of arts in education from Walsh University, and her master of arts in teaching-curriculum and instruction from Saint Mary College.

Massillon, OH (August 25th, 2015) Massillon City School district is pleased to welcome Olivia Bronczek as the new communications coordinator.

Growing up in Massillon, Ive always had a passion for the Massillon City School District,said Bronczek. This position provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the things I love about Massillon that some people may not always be aware of. I was interested in this position because it allows me to highlight the positive events taking place within the district and plan new events.

As the communications coordinator, Olivia will act as a liaison between the school district and community and coordinate public relations efforts for the district including, publications, social media and special events.

Her goals are to create a positive interaction between the school district and community and provide influential partnerships for the district to help students further their education and career goals.

Prior to accepting this position, Olivia was the marketing events and promotions coordinator at Fresh Mark, where she coordinated and executed events for the mobile marketing unit, The Taste of Sugardale.Before being hired full time at Fresh Mark, she spent two years interning for the company.

We are excited to have Olivia join our team,said Superintendent Richard Goodright. Her eagerness to highlight the positive events happening at Massillon will be a great addition to our district. I look forward to the new ideas that Olivia will bring to the position and our schools.

Mark Fortner has been the Assistant Superintendent for the Massillon City Schools for 7 years. He worked as the Principal of Massillon Washington High School from 2001 – 2007. His career began in Massillon in 1999, when he was hired as the Principal at L.J. Smith Elementary.

Fortner’s career in education spans almost three decades, having taught high school mathematics and science at several districts in Stark County. Fortner also served as an athletic director for the Fairless Local Schools. He has coached many extracurricular activities including football, track, basketball, and gymnastics.

Fortner received his bachelor’s degree in education and mathematics from The University of Akron. He also received a master’s degree in school administration from Ashland University.

Amy grew up in Norton, Ohio. She graduated from Mount Union with a degree in Biology and Chemistry, and then moved to Eagle Pass, Texas, a large school district on the Mexican border. She became licensed to teach all the sciences, so she taught an advanced Anatomy and Physiology class, developed a Medical Microbiology course, and became the school’s dedicated science testing wrap-up lead teacher. She used data-driven techniques to figure out where students needed interventions, and tailored a plan to fit their specific needs.

She completed a Master’s Degree in School Administration in 2007, and then moved back to Ohio. She was hired by The University of Akron to write Biology curriculum for non-majors, provide PD to the new Biology Graduate Teaching Assistants, and coordinate their Biology laboratory. She has written seven laboratory manuals for various universities, designed several web pages, videoed lectures and labs, and is a Google Certified Teacher.

While working for The University of Akron, she completed a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction in Secondary Schools. Her focus was on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education. She also runs several websites dedicated to technology, science, education, and digital publishing. In her spare time, she is a scuba diver, animal lover, world traveler, and fluent in Spanish. She lives in Green with her son Matthew, and her chihuahua Tipsy.

Charles V Maier has been the Security Director for the Massillon City Schools for 15 years. Prior to working with the Massillon City Schools he was a day shift supervisor for the Massillon City Police Department. His school career started in in January 2001. He was hired as the security administrator of the Massillon city schools.

Maier's career in law enforcement spans almost 4 decades, having been a Police Officer for the City of Massillon. He also served on the state of Ohio Fraternal Order of Police Executive board as second Vice President for six years. As a founding member of the Department of Homeland Security Chuck was appointed a liaison to the governors committee on school security. The Ohio police Chiefs Association appointed him to their safe schools conference committee. Chuck has been the incident command officer for the Paul Brown Tiger Stadium football games and state of Ohio playoffs.

Maier graduated from Washington high school and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice, and had leadership training at Ohio State University. He also is a certified by the Ohio peace officers training Council as an instructor has instructed in the Alice emergency training for schools. He is also certified in investigative hypnosis, school resource officer, high-speed pursuit instructor, crucial conversations training, incident command systems, incident management, unified command, national incident management systems, hazardous materials, critical incident stress management, police officer bicycle course, community policing concepts, field training supervisor, unarmed self-defense, domestic violence training, labor-management, hostage negotiation, laws of arrest, rules of evidence, crime scene search, fingerprinting, forensic science, missing children, and rape crisis intervention.

Maier also received an officer of the year award by the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police, Crime Prevention award from the Stark County prosecutor, and the Presidential Call to Service award from President Bush along with a letter from the White House, and has several service accommodation letters.

Dan McGrath has been the Transportation Supervisor since August 2014. Prior to this position, Dan was a Principal of Massillon Intermediate School since 2010. Before coming to Massillon, McGrath spent five years as a middle school assistant principal at Fairless Local Schools and athletic director for grades seven through twelve.

McGrath received his bachelor of science in elementary education from Kent State University, and a mater’s degree in education from Ashland University.

McGrath’s career also includes 14 years of teaching experience, and 10 years as a head softball coach.

Lavon McLeod is in her first year as the RTI coordinator for Massillon City Schools. Prior to joining Massillon, McLeod spent several years as an elementary teacher in Canton, and also as an instructor at Malone College.

Mike Medure has been the principal of Franklin Elementary since 2008. Prior to taking this position, Medure served as an Academics Plus teacher and behavior coach for the district from 1998-2008.

Medure received his bachelor’s degree in education from Malone University and his master’s degree in education in administration from Ashland University.

Medure is a recipient of the Library Beacon Award and also participated in the 27th Stark County Class Leadership.

Sandy Moeglin has been the treasurer and chief financial officer (CFO) of Massillon City Schools since 2012. Before coming to Massillon, Moeglin served as the treasurer and CFO for Marlington Local Schools from 2008-12, and for Brown Local Schools from 1999-2008.

Moeglin has received several awards during her career, including the Herbert D. Brum Award in 2001, the Ohio Auditor of the State Award in 2010, 2011 and 2012. She is also the 2012 NE Regional Distinguished Service Award winner.

Moeglin received her bachelor of arts degree in management from Malone University and her associate degree in accounting from Stark State College.

Rebecca Moore (Becca) is the Parent Involvement Coordinator. Before joining the staff here in Massillon, Becca taught, first grade, second grade, fourth grade, title. She was the middle school guidance counselor at St. Mary's Middle School for 2 years. After moving to Cincinnati she was an Assistant Principal of an all girls high school for a year and a Special Education Director for a k-8 building. Aside from school Becca serves as the Director of Education for the non-profit Girls Above Society, an organization dedicated to empowering girls to be confident leaders of their generation, working with the President Lauren Galley to bring a fresh perspective on the importance of maintaining a positive online presence for tweens and teens. With a degree in Journalism, and Early Childhood Education, with a Masters in Counseling and Administration Becca works closely with youth as they face the tough pressures of today’s media driven society. Outside of school work, and volunteering Becca enjoys doing triathlons and completed her first half ironman in July. She will be training for a full ironman for 2016. She is a proud wife to Massillon High’s Head Football Coach, Nate Moore.

John Petro is in his fifth year as Building and Grounds Supervisor. Prior to coming to Massillon, Petro was a Supervisor and Packaging Engineer at Detroit Diesel Corporation in Canton, Ohio for nineteen years. He then served as the Facilities Manager at Goodwill Industries in Canton, Ohio for three years.

Petro is a 1982 graduate of GlenOak High School, where he played football under the leadership of Bob Commings. He received his bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Michigan State University.

He is married to Amy and has four children, Avery; Ben; Nick and Teresa. In his free time Petro enjoys traveling with his wife and children to the Gulf Shore Beaches

Matt Plybon has been the principal at Whittier Elementary since 2004. Prior to this, Plybon served as the principal of Franklin Elementary from 2000-04.

Before coming to Massillon in 2000, Plybon was a fourth-grade teacher at Orrville City Schools from 1991-2000.

Plybon received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Bowling Green State University and his master of educational administration from Ashland University. Plybon also received his five-year principal licensure and five-year superintendent licensure from Ashland University.

In the community, Plybon is a United Way building fundraiser coordinator, American Heart Association Jump Rope for Heart coordinator and member of the Orrville Shade Tree Commission. He is also a member of the Whittier Wild Cats Relay for Life committee.

Marie has been an employee of the district for twelve years. She was previously the Executive Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent.

Ryan Spicer is the Director of Special Services for the district. Prior to accepting this position in January of 2016, he was an assistant principal at Washington High School for two years. Spicer also served as a social studies teacher at the high school from 2010-2013, and as an intervention specialist at the high school from 2003-2010.

James Thom joined Massillon City Schools in June 1998. He was hired as the district computer network technician and now assumes the role as Director of Technology. Prior to coming to Massillon James worked several years in the Electrical, IT, and Network Cabling fields.

In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
