Crafts
#1 Research famous 5 or more word quotes from history.  Identify the author and the context in which the quote was spoken or written.

#2  Using a variety of sources and lettering styles, in the manner of a 'ransom note,' cut out individual letters that will spell out the words that make up your quote and the author's name.

#3 Write a 2 paragraph statement that identifies your quote and explains both the significance of the person making the quote and  how what they said or wrote impacted society.
Drawing
#1 Working in a format no smaller than 8.5 x 11, create a complete drawing (a minimum of four value levels, plus black and white) that fills the page.  This drawing is to include a piece of clear glass (think: drinking glass, vase, etc.)  and a solid item that can be seen both through and around the glass.

#2  Working in a format no smaller than 8.5 x 11, create a complete drawing (a minimum of four value levels, plus black and white) that fills the page. This is a second drawing that is to include a different piece of clear glass (think: drinking glass, vase, etc.) and a different solid item that can be seen both through and around the glass.

#3  Working in a format no smaller than 8.5 x 11, create a complete drawing (a minimum of four value levels, plus black and white) that fills the page. Using three pieces of clear glass, arrange the pieces so that there is a visual overlapping.  Develop a strong light source with a table lamp or flashlight.  Create a complete drawing that accurately represents this arrangement.
Painting
#1 Research architecture that demonstrates significance for its choice of style and/or history.  Identify the period in which the structure was built and where available, the architect.

#2 Select an area, with an approximate scale of 4x8, of the chosen building.  Working in a format no smaller than an 8.5 x 11 page, create a complete drawing of the chosen area that fills the page.

#3 Apply color (with color pencil or crayon) using a complimentary color scheme, which includes the intensity scale, to the work.  Lightest areas should be represented with the warm color's true hue, as shaded areas gradually dull with the blended application of the cool complimentary color.  The darkest areas are represented with the cool color's true hue. An internet search will extend your understanding of this topic and its application. One site to look at is  http://faculty.rcc.edu/hewitt/Advanced_Photoshop/color/color_hvi.htm#intensity
for additional information.  The section on intensity should be your focus. Additional online searches may also be helpful.  These preparatory works will be used for our upcoming in-class work.
A.P. Studio
On each of the three days that these are implemented, the student is to continue their work on their Portfolio.  An ongoing process, the students will be working on either the Concentration or Breadth portion of their portfolio.  Striving for both quality and a strong statement of skill and technique.  Concentration works must be focused upon the theme that has been approved, while Breadth works can approach a more broad level of topic.
