Orientation is a time for students and parents to become familiar with the online coursework and the expectations of being an online student.
All new MDA students and parents are required to attend an initial orientation session in the computer lab. This first look will provide the student and parent critical information necessary to begin working in the Florida Virtual program. Calendars, the student handbook, and other pertinent information will be made available at that time. You should expect to be there for at least 60 minutes. This new student introduction must be scheduled in advance.
Once the initial session is completed, new students are then required to attend MDA lab sessions totaling 20 hours. This works out to two hours per day for ten days.
Once the 20-hour orientation goal is met, students may continue their work at home. Online learning at home requires self-discipline and a will to succeed. Course and lesson progress is the responsibility of each individual student so daily parental reinforcement, support, and direction is expected. Students can continue to come in for additional help and a quiet environment to complete their work.
